Gaurdians of The Galaxy Casting News

Following on the tail of Marvel's 'The Avengers' is a movie whose source content is not nearly as well known as 'The Avengers' amongst the general public.  However, for those of us who follow comic books, it seem pretty exciting.  The movie titled 'Guardians of The Galaxy' has all the potential to be a huge film.  And as cautious as I am to say I am excited about this movie, I can't deny the fact that I really want to see Rocket Raccoon on the big screen.  (Just hope it's done right).

And if the previous movies from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is any indication, then they definitely have huge shoes to fill.  And what better way to start off the hype, than to build a cast of top billed actors and actresses.  Presently there is still a lot of speculation about the casting, but there are confirmed actors/roles already listed.

We can look forward to seeing the following in their fresh Marvel roles:
-Michael Rooker (of Walking Dead fame) taking on the role of Yondu
-Zoe Saldana will be portraying the deadliest woman in the galaxy: Gamora
-Chris Pratt will be in the role of Peter Quill (aka Star-Lord).
-Dave Bautista from WWE fame is filling the shoes of Draxx the Destroyer

Also credited as part of the cast (but unbilled as to their role in the film) are:
-Glenn Close (possibly as a leader of the Nova Corps.)
-Benicio Del Toro (who knows, but some speculate as Thanos)
-Karen Gillan (possibly playing Death opposite Thanos)
-Lee Pace (unbilled role as of this writing)

I am personally excited for the Karen Gillan as she was a fan favorite from one of my favorite television shows: 'Doctor Who'.  Gillan portrayed the infamous Time Lord's companion 'Amy Pond' for several seasons.  So it's awesome to see her leap from one of my favorite shows into one of my favorite mediums: comic books.

It has been said that Del Toro's role will be included in several other films as part of the ongoing Phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  So I am extremely excited to see how this one pans out.  So as Phase 2 has started unraveling itself for us in 'Iron Man 3', I can't wait to see what Marvel has in store for the future.

I was an 80's kid.  So for me, my childhood was spent watching movies like 'Masters of the Universe' (and dreaming that is was done right).  And then foaming at the mouth when 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' became a live action film. When it came to the comic books that me and my friends loved so much, we were strictly left to playground fun and collecting action figures.  Now that I'm 31 years old, and we have the creative direction of fantastic directors and productions stafff, and the fact that technology has started to catch up with the types of effects needed for these productions is an amazing thing.

In short, it's a great time to be a comic book nerd.

The release date for 'Guardians of The Galaxy' is 8-1-2014.

The Amazing Spider-Man

Admittedly, I wasn't exactly excited to hear that yet another Spidey movie was in the works.  Personally, I grew up with the Spider-Man that could organically created his own webbing and all of the classic baddies from Spidey's world.  However, after seeing one of the latest trailers to drop.  I can actually say I am looking forward to this take.

The cast looks amazing and we get a bad guy that hasn't been done on film yet.  Instead of a complete reboot where we see another take on the Green Goblin or even the Hobgoblin; we get Lizard.  And I have to say he looks pretty cool.  So, if you haven't seen the Japanese trailer, check it out as it shows off some new footage.

Enjoy!

The Avengers Official Trailer!

So today Marvel decided to throw the world a bone and let us see what we've been building up the last couple of summer's to see; a first look at none other than: The Avengers!  In what equates to nearly a 2 minute trailer we get a great trailer for the upcoming flick.  In it you will see the team of superheroes in all their glory.  From Captain America, Iron Man, HawkEye, Black Widow, Thor, and of course Mr. Nick Fury.  And we finally get to see some shots of Banner transforming into The Hulk!  We also get a few shots of Loki; but still nothing concerning the Skrulls.  And Marvel hasn't confirmed the Skrull's involvement in the movie either; it's purely been speculation as to whether or not this flick will show us Loki's alliance with the Skrulls.

We also get a few quick glimpses of some strife within the group with Tony Stark antagonizing Steve Rogers and even shots of a fight sequence between Thor and Captain America.  The common denominator: Captain America doesn't get along with others, I guess??  Anyways, the flick looks awesome and I absolutely can't wait to see it.  For those who haven't seen the trailer yet, enjoy!

New Captain America Clip

Another Captain America clip has hit the web.  See below (borrowed from IGN).

I'm a huge fan of all things comic book related (or at least most things comic related).  And as awesome as the Iron Man series was, (I have yet to see Thor); I have really high hopes for this flick.  However, I just have this striking feeling that it will leave us wanting/needing more from the experience.  The movie has a top billed cast of actors:
-Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America
-Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull
And even old favorites such as Tommy Lee Jones shows up.

So, by definition of the cast and plot and backing studio, the movie should rock.  And since they are building up to the Avengers movie, it in all honesty has to be awesome.  But time will tell.  The clip above is pretty good.  I think that some of the combat looks a little weird with bodies flying around like the Hulk is fighting them.  But hey, Cap' is a super soldier right?

Just one request...Please don't suck!

Marvel's Thor: The Trailer

Okay, back in July I saw saw a few teaser shots Marvel had released from it's upcomming 'Thor' feature length film.  Admittedly, I was probably a little rough; if not judgmental about it's release.  The teaser shots did not give it justice (based on the scenes from the trailer).  However, I am still undecided about this movie.  I will end up seeing this film due to it being inline with the buildup to the 'Avengers' film.  I like how they are piecing the movies together (like the Cap. America shield in the first Iron Man, and Thor's Hammer at the end of Iron Man 2).  It will be neat to see what they throw into Thor.

And by the way, this week it was announces that Jon Favreau won't be directing 'Iron Man 3'.  According to several articles I have read, it doesn't sound like there is any bad blood between Mr. Favreau and Marvel.  For the details checkout this article:

And in the meantime, checkout the trailer for 'Thor'.

Another 'Thor' Picture Has Hit!

Ok, as an avid fan of Marvel Comics for my entire childhood and a big part of my adult life.  I am for the first time fearful for my favorite comic publisher.  The 'Thor' movie can easily go one of two ways:
  1. Fans will come out and love it, and it will be creative enough to suck in people who are unfamiliar with the character and Thor's story.
  2. This can go south...and I mean way south for Marvel if they don't pull this off.
My hope, is that Marvel can make a great movie based on Thor.  Will it be on par with Iron Man and Iron Man 2?  Probably not is my guess, different director with a different take.  The Iron Man character has a lot in common with everyday news, being a deterrent to war in the middle east.  And as worded by Tony Stark in 'Iron Man 2': 'I have managed to single handedly privatize world peace.'  Whereas a character like Thor is based in a largely fantasy world from legends that are ages old.  In the case: from Asgard to Earth.  Hopefully, the public will be open minded.

The cast definitely looks promising as well with big names attached:
  • Anthony Hopkins
  • Natalie Portman
  • Ray Stevenson
  • Renee Russo and Chris Hemsworth to name a few.

Will it be something worthwhile to hold us over until 'The Avengers'?  I sincerely hope so.  Let's not even begin on the possibility of seeing the effects Disney has on Marvel since their acquisition (last thing we need is Mickey Mouse hidden in scenes).  In the event that this movie doesn't do so hot, how will that affect Thor's role in 'The Avengers'.

Now with those opinions off of my chest, here is the newest 'Thor' pic to hit the web.

This shot shows three of the main players in the 'Thor' mythos: Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

And for those who may have missed out on the first Thor pic to go live:

Best of luck Marvel!
