New Game Coming to the F2P Crowd: Star Trek Online

It was announced this week by Perfect World Entertainment (who is now the game's publisher) will be pushing Star Trek Online into the Free-2-Play realm later this year.  And it couldn't be happening under a better publishing company.  Perfect World Entertainment is known for it's high quality, free to play MMO titles.  This is great news for people who like to game on a budget.  Let's be honest, MMO games are a lot of fun (or at least they can be).  But who really likes throwing down around $15 dollars a month just to play a game that we have already bought?

This is why I have previously left games like WoW.  So if you have been looking to try out Star Trek Online but were put off by the monthly subscription rates, then your wait is soon to be over.

STO will join the ranks of other games that have found great success in the F2P genre, including LOTRO, Team Fortress 2, Age of Conan: Unchained, and Champions Online.

And before someone starts screaming, I know WoW now offers a F2P offer as well.  But honestly it's nothing more than an 'unlimited trial' of the game up to Level 20 (and they are still experiencing record numbers of people leaving the game since Cataclysm was released).  But that is for another story altogether.

MMO: Free to Play Showcase!

Here is a little lovin' for the MMO fans out there.  If you're looking for a free to play title but seem to be put off by some of the graphics that some of these games use.  Then swing by Massively's site for a great article on "The Best Looking Games In Free to Play".  With the exception of Faxion, the rest of the games are pretty much aimed at a casual audience.  So in the spirit of giving MMO fans some attention, here is my list of a few of the best looking F2P MMO titles.

Lord of The Rings Online

Lord of The Rings Online is a great game, and on top of that it is free to play now.  Turbine, the company behind Dungeons & Dragons Online has done an outstanding job implementing a cash shop that doesn't feel intrusive as you play through Middle-Earth.  This game has captured a lot of my attention as of late, especially since they continue to release new content regularly for this title.  The latest content fixing to be released is the "Rise of Isengard" and it looks very promising (let's just say Saruman is making an appearance this time).

Dungeon's & Dragons Online

Dungeon's & Dragon's Online is another great title brought to us by Turbine.  With another great implementation of their cash shop and top notch graphics this game is another premium style MMO.  And they constantly update the game.  The latest update (Update 11) brings the Artificer Class.

Allods Online
Another great game (not made my Turbine this time) is Allods Online.  Allods Online will remind you of WoW style graphics, but features some unique gameplay aspects.  Later in the game you have the ability to interact with Astral Ships.  Which is pretty awesome.

Age of Conan: Unchained

Age of Conan is new to the Free to Play genre of games.  Some would argue about the actual free offerings that this title has to offer.  However, as far as graphics go, this game is top notch.

This list is for the more mature MMO fan (especially Conan).  So feel free to spend this coming weekend trying out a new game!

Age of Conan: Unchained F2P

Well, despite everything I have been reading the last couple of weeks about Age of Conan I have decided I will go ahead and download the F2P (free to play) game client and begin a test drive of the game.  I attempted to try the game out once before and had some issues getting to that point.

Personally, the game looks like it has a lot of potential.  Once I have installed the game, my goal is to give it 30 days of play time before reporting back on my time with the game.  So check back soon.

F2P News: Age of Conan: Unchained

Fans of MMO's everywhere should be on the edge of their seats...Why?  Because another MMO has adopted a free to play model again.  This time it is Funcom's Age of Conan.  Now, I know a lot of players have their own opinions on AOC; however, I haven't personally played it.  Now that it has a Free 2 Play offering, I may check it out.  I'm an avid fan of Big Bang Theory (the geeky TV show for those not in the know).  And one of the episodes from an earlier season revolves around the guys playing AOC.  It sparked my interest then.

Fast forward a little while, and you'll know that they offered a free limited trial that let players experience the first 10 levels or so of the game.  Which was a cool idea, not sure how well it worked out for them, but it was a cool idea.  Now, they have changed up the offerings somewhat.  When you get into looking at the fine details you'll see that their F2P offering is basically an advanced limited trial type of deal.  See below:

So as you can see they are really trying to tease players to hop back into the game.  Will this help draw people back into Hyboria?  Not sure, will people try it out.  Hopefully they will.  If you're interested visit:
