We all know that the world we live is very much driven by the content people make and push to be seen. After all, the majority of the daily internet usage is consumption of some type of content. Whether it be multimedia, text, audio, etc. So naturally with the natural desire to create we are faced with other issues. Issues like, where do we go to promote and distribute our created content? How do make money from our content (that's the natural progression, right)?
And for a long time, indie game developers have been hitting this wall. There are a lot of good indie games out there. But they tend to have small followings and make their developers very little in terms of financial returns. Unless the game gets some attention by one of the big name game publishers. A lot of times these small indie development teams tend to fizzle out due to this.
Not anymore, we are starting to see a change in not only the way things are done in the physical, non-digital world and economy. But also with the online economy. It is becoming gradually easier to at least get your hands on a distribution platform for the content we create.
Enter, Indievania. In simple terms it is a distribution website for indie game developers to flock to and offer their games for sale. The site itself doesn't even touch the transaction; therefore, charging nothing to the buy or seller of the media up for grabs. User's simply buy directly from the game developers. Indievania only acts as a 'middle-man' to offer a place for indie game maker's to sell their goods.
Indievania was developed by Alientrap (who themselves are also indie developers). So who better to develop a platform to distribute indie games than an indie developer themselves. When sellers sign up, they use PayPal for handle transactions. Also, all games are DRM-free and no games are rejected.
So do these guys a favor and swing by their site and checkout whats happening in the Indie Game World. You never know when the next big game will jump out of the indie scene.
