Ok, so after just about refusing to go back and finish watching the Mortal Kombat Legacy web series; I decided to go back and watch the last episode from the first season. I know, I'm about a month late. However, after some of the other liberties with the characters I had just about wrote off this web series. It started off so strong and seemed to just about die out towards the end of 8 episodes.
Then came along Episode 9: Cyrax & Sektor. And I must say, it was good. Probably one of the best episodes. Why? Well we get to see two of my favorite fighters in action. The entire episode skirts around the origin stories of the two Lin Kuei assassins. The resulting fight at the end is pretty freakin' good. We even get treated to a fatality towards the end of the video.
Sure, the sequence could have been shot using some fancy Machinima techniques. But instead they went with a CG Sequence that turned out pretty awesome. In some spots the fight sequence seemed a little funny with some of the movements and jumps the fighters pulled off, but otherwise no complaints here.
We even get a glimpse at what the series is refering to as 'Project Hydro' which is a gray/black colored cyborg very similar to Cyborg Smoke.
As far as my opinion goes, if the rest of the series was up to this quality I'd have no complaints whatsoever. I understand they are making this series with a very limited budget; while trying to retain some big names for the series to no doubt draw people in. With the roster touting: Jerri Ryan, Michael Jai White, Ian Anthony Dale and Peter Shinkoda.
But seriously, for anybody to take it at face value we need less of the animated stuff that made up several of the episodes, and a bit of modern makeup/fx (remember their take on Baraka?). I hope if they are planning a Season 2, that they have learned some lessons from Season 1. Meanwhile, swing by and watch Episode 9 on YouTube: http://ff44d589.tinylinks.co
