Warhammer 40k: Space Marine Demo

Holy crap, I just finished playing through the 'Warhammer 40k: Space Marine' demo for the PS3.  And let me say it's freakin' awesome!  It plays a lot like 'Gears of War' without the cover mechanics.  Maybe because Space Marines don't back down.  Anyways, aside from the game lacking a sort of cover system, the combat is crazy.

As the demo starts out you work your way across the base and disable a crane that is being operated by the Orc's.  They are trying to bust down a gate to get access to the Experimental Weapon and it is your job to keep that from happening.  As you work your way to the lift, you eventually get slammed with a huge fight with several hordes of Orc's.  It's awesome.

The Orc's comments during firefights are hilarious.  They say things like 'Try and shoot me!' or 'Kill the Space Marines!!'.  After listening to their chattering the same lines during each fight it does get a little old.  However, that makes slaying your way through the Orc Hoards all the more entertaining.  Other than the Orc's one liners, I have no other complaints about the demo.

Once you're finished working through the campaign demo, you get to venture in 'The Battlements' portion of the demo.  This portion of the demo grants your character access to a Jump Pack that will let you rocket towards the sky and work the crowd from above.  While free falling back to the ground (or in many cases a ledge) you can perform a Ground Pound as an initial attack to take Orc gunners by surprise.  The flight is handled in short bursts that basically grant a quick boost into the air more than sustained flight.

I would love to see how some of these mechanics work into the multiplayer portion of the game.  Overall, if the single player demo is any insight, than the multiplayer fights should be pretty amazing.  Not to mention in multiplayer you'll have access to different classes of Space Marines.

Just when it starts getting good, the demo ends.  :(  Anyways, if you're not too savy on the Warhammer 40k universe, but love shooters than this demo is definitely for you.
