Steve Jobs + Twitter Rumor = Dead Web Show

So what happens when you are part of a Web Show that is in business with a leading TV Network like CBS and you decide to tweet about the death of an iconic member of both the technology and pop culture worlds...Well, you're show dies a grizzly death and your business partnership kind of disappears?  Yep, that's exactly what happens.

Shira Lazar was the producer on a CBS web show called "What's Trending?".  A tweet went out from the show's Twitter account over the weekend announcing the death of Steve Jobs.  Remember a few weeks ago Mr. Jobs resigned as CEO of Apple (which led to much freaking out by investors).  So imagine the freak outs that were to be had over this tweet.  In response Ms. Shira Lazar (the show's producer) issued an apology tweet acknowledging the rumor was unconfirmed (see pic above post).

If you have been following Twitter for a while, you'll know and understand that this isn't the first situation where a celebrity has been rumored dead.  From the likes of Lady Gaga, Snoop Dog, Jackie Chan, and even Tony Danza (seriously, people have tried to kill of Tony Danza?!); the rumor mill runs nonstop.  Especially at the rate in which news travels via Twitter.

So, what was CBS' response to the erroneous tweet?  Wipe the business relationships and kill the show. Unfortunate for those involved, but seriously folks; as a media outlet (of any type), all info has to be validated to build the trust between your viewers/readers/partakers and yourself.  Hopefully, lessons were learned.

And yes, Steve Jobs is still alive.
